KIOWA NATIONAL GRASSLANDS

The Kiowa Grasslands is part of a system of grasslands in the Cibola National Forest. Together with the Rita Blanca, McClellan Creek, and Black Kettle Grasslands, the Kiowa Grasslands make up the Panhandle National Grassland, which covers 263,954 acres in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Located in Northeastern New Mexico and stretching through part of Harding County, the Kiowa Grasslands has an abundance of lakes and wildlife. This sprawling area is spotted with water-related recreation, camping, and picnic grounds. Pheasant hunting is also allowed on the Grasslands, when in season.
MILLS CANYON

Also known as the Canadian River Canyon, Mills Canyon spans across Northeastern New Mexico for close to 100 miles, at nearly 6,000 feet in elevation. It holds numerous historic sites, pioneer structures, and natural beauties. Visitors can enjoy hiking, camping, and sightseeing along the canyon road. Mills Canyon primitive campground is located at the bottom of the canyon near the Canadian River, and dispersed camping is allowed in accordance with the USDA’s National Forest laws.
